Glad You Came - The Wanted

This song got me a favourite boyband of all time. I love how meaningful the lyrics are. I even use the chorus in my thank you card for people that I appreciate.

Here is the lyrics:

The sun goes down
The stars come out
And all that counts
Is here and now
My universe will never be the same
I'm glad you came

You cast a spell on me, spell on me
You hit me like the sky fell on me, fell on me
And I decided you look well on me, well on me
So let's go somewhere no one else can see, you and me

Turn the lights out now
Now I'll take you by the hand
Hand you another drink
Drink it if you can
Can you spend a little time,
Time is slipping away,
Away from us so stay,
Stay with me I can make,
Make you glad you came

The sun goes down
The stars come out
And all that counts
Is here and now
My universe will never be the same
I'm glad you came
I'm glad you came

You cast a spell on me, spell on me
You hit me like the sky fell on me, fell on me
And I decided you look well on me, well on me
So let's go somewhere no one else can see, you and me

Turn the lights out now
Now I'll take you by the hand
Hand you another drink
Drink it if you can
Can you spend a little time,
Time is slipping away,
Away from us so stay,
Stay with me I can make,
Make you glad you came

The sun goes down
The stars come out
And all that counts
Is here and now
My universe will never be the same
I'm glad you came
I'm glad you came

I'm glad you came
So glad you came
I'm glad you came
I'm glad you came

The sun goes down
The stars come out
And all that counts
Is here and now
My universe will never be the same
I'm glad you came
I'm glad you came

As I am sad that The Wanted has disbanded, I am glad they have made some awesome music that kept me going as I face my challenges in life. I really wish that they will have a comeback so that I can listen to more awesome songs. This song can also describe my feelings for the presence of this awesome boyband. =)

I Travelled with FWD Insurance

I just came back from my trip to Japan and this is the second time that I buy travel insurance online on my own. I find it cheaper as compared to buying from agents or via travel agencies.

What I like about FWD is that I can get 5% discount off my purchase. Clicking on the link here entitles you to get 5% off your selected plan too! You can even get an additional 5% off when they offer you to answer a questionaire to earn that perk.

I heard that claiming is easy but I am not sure about it as I am very lucky that I do not have to make any claims this time.

Since it was a smooth purchase for me and I was given discount, I would strongly recommend people to check out this company to get their desired insurance plans.

Carousell

I have been using Carousell for a while now and I really like the idea! I am more daring with my purchases now because if there is any reason that I do not need it in future, I can always sell it off. Sale was quite fast too.

However, there are a lot of funny and weird people on Carousell that people should beware of, besides from the scammers that cheat people of their hard earned money. For the safety of both buyers and sellers, I would strongly recommend the transaction to be done via meetup at accessible public spaces such as MRT stations. The reasons are that places like this are filled with people and there are surveillance cameras around that the other party is not that bold to play any tricks.

Before closing the deal for any transaction, it is always good to double check or triple check the items and assess the credibility of a seller. Feel free to talk more and ask more relevant questions. Don't ever give in to the temptation to save some money even though the seller can't answer the questions; something must be amiss then. That also doesn't mean that a buyer can behave like a jerk too. Everything takes both hands to clap.

Mainly as a carousell seller than a buyer, I have met my fair share of weirdos. I have come to the conclusion that carousell can have a tagline "where you find lots of weirdos" as their slogan. Sometimes it is really a test of my patience to answer irrelevant questions and unreasonable requests. Being a badass that leads a thug life, never do I believe that customers are always right. If any customer's rude behaviour hit my patience's limit, I rather not carry on with the deal.

As there are a lot of weird people on Carousell, there are nice people too! These are the people who makes life at Carousell better. To ensure things are smooth, be nice, whether as a seller or buyer, and take the necessary precautions.

Wishing all good and pleasant transactions on Carousell!

Shop with ShopBack

Online shopping has been really convenient and efficient at many levels and it is one of the most used way that people get their things bought. With the credit card charges and all the taxes, wouldn't it be great if you can actually get some money back with each item that you purchase? There is a program in place and it is like getting discount even the seller is not having any sale.

Sounds too good to be true? Yeah. However, it is true, as long as you meet the terms and conditions. I have been using ShopBack for some time and have accumulated quite some amount from most of my online spendings. The percentage of cashback may seems small, but it actually helps to save a lot as you accumulate with all the spendings over time.

Recently, they are hiring for a Chief Shopping Officer, with $4000SGD given at your disposal. I have applied for it and really hope that I can get it because I have been really loyal to the program and is crazy about online shopping.

I Have Changed

My blog has been really inactive. I have tried to be more active but it seems to be really hard to be the same as I was in the past. I wonder what was the cause. Facebook? Work? Age? Maybe it's just everything.

My writing style has inevitably changed too. Lots of posts were saved in draft mode because I tried to keep everything in my "old style". I have been trying to maintain it but my perspective is really different now Since that is the case, I guess I shall embrace this change and write in my new style, since it is not a negative change.

I guess I need a new blog profile photo and description as well. I see that things of my blog has to be revamped, to put everything into order, aligning with my current perception. The old posts will stay at it is while all new posts from now on will be a different and new style. I shall take it easy with the change as I have been very harsh on myself for many things. What I should do with the other inactive blogs shall be decided next time.

It's Chinese New Year's eve today, that I made the decision. Guess it's a good time to make the decision and make a good change for a brand new year. =)

Happy Lunar New Year, everyone! ^^

Mammogram, Mammographer, Mammo Patients

I am not really willing to post anything about my work on my blog but there is something that I believe that I have to post for the goodwill of the general population.

In Singapore, we know that Breast Cancer is the top woman killer. According to statistics from the National Cancer Centre Singapore, "more than 25% of all cancers diagnosed in women are breast cancers". It is thus recommended that woman from the age of 40 years old onwards to have their routine mammogram done.

The most common questions that I got from patients is that "between mammogram and ultrasound breasts, which one is better", and "how often should mammograms be done".

I would say that no specific imaging procedure is more superior than another. The different type of scan techniques are used to look out for different things. Ultrasound is mainly used to look for cysts while mammogram is mainly used to look for calcifications. Ultrasound is more suitable for young ladies who are not yet eligible for mammogram because their breasts are still dense. The usual screening mammogram for patients start at the age of 40 with some patients starting earliest at the age of 35. Any age below 35 are not eligible for mammogram due to the dense breast tissues unless the patient has clinical findings such as suspicious lumps. The youngest patient that I ever did was 26 years old. There is MRI scanning for breasts too. But that is usually for patients with malignant lumps. For the age of 40 to 50, patients are actually recommended to have mammograms done annually. For the age of 50 to 60, some patients continue to have it done annually while some do it once every two years. People may ask, so to have it done in two years or one year? Well, that depends on the doctor that the patients visit. The referring doctor would access the patient's history to determine if a more frequent assessment is required. For the age of 60 to 70, assessment is usually once every three years. It is then again, depending on patient's anatomy and history.

The next most common concern of a patient is the radiation dosage that they are exposed to. The dose that are given will always be the least but sufficient enough for an image to have a diagnostic purpose. There is this ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle that all radiographers have to abide to.

With the advancement of technology, having breasts artificially enhanced with breast implants can be done really easily. Mammograms for patients with breast implants are the most uncomfortable experience as compared to the normal mammograms. Instead of the standard four views for both breasts, there is a total of standard eight views for these patients. It is basically two sets of the standard four views with the second set done with a pinch technique; pulling out the soft tissues and pushing the implant towards the chest for compression and imaging of solely the soft tissues.

My views on breast implants? I do not support it because we are all beautiful as who we are already.

Some people may have this misconception that the size of the breast is the cause of the pain during mammograms. The size of the breasts may be a contributing factor to the discomfort but it is not the ultimate factor that causes the pain. I would always recommend my patients to make their appointment within 10 days after their menstruation as that is the time when the breasts are the softest, with regards to the menstrual cycle. Honestly, I can't remember where I got this information but it is commonly observed for the breasts to be sore during the pre-menstrual period.

October is the Breast Cancer awareness month where there will be some promotions to have mammograms and bone densitometry done at a discounted price. The queue will however be exceptionally long. As a mammographer, doing our best to serve all the patients, we hope for your understanding in the long wait due to the surge in the volume of patients and also our aching lower back due to the additional heavy workload that we have for the month. It would be nice to be appreciated so do remember to thank the radiographer and other staffs who served you. Those little words can make our day. =)

Bobby Wang showcases the vibrant look for this Chinese New Year

This is the second event that I have attended with Estee Lauder bringing in their global makeup artist. The first one was a good experience for me and this second experience of mine further confirm my stand that Estee Lauder has really nice makeup artists.

As I did not blog about the first event, I shall just give an insight of what happened here. I got to attend the event because a friend of mine was invited to the makeover and she was allowed to bring another guest. I was assigned to this makeup artist named Bobby from Taiwan. (Yep, not Bobby Wang, its two different person.) Besides from just doing the makeup for me, he actually chatted with me to find out more about me so that he can do a makeup for me that is suitable for my skin and also suitable for my social status. He chose the kind of makeup that isn't not "too me" and also convenient for my work. He even about how the nurses back in Taiwan do their makeup. He taught me tricks that I can do to enhance my physical appearance. He emphasised that the main aim of makeup is to bring out the confidence and not to change a person. He even made sure that the makeup done for me is acceptable for me. How nice is that!

The event I attended with Bobby Wang as the makeup artist was held at Isetan Scotts yesterday. Besides from doing the demonstration on the model, he even bothered to speak to the only three attendees that appeared. The staffs for the event were nice too. In the short chat after the demonstration, I found out that I am actually more suitable for warm-coloured eye shadow that are not glittery.

According to Bobby Wang, concealer is a very important tool that is not to be missed out in doing makeup. The choice of the shade is usually one shade lighter than the foundation used. It is mainly used to cover dark circles, and other imperfection around the lips and the T-zone. It can also act like a highlighter for a fast touch-up. This is how important a concealer is.

The usage of blusher is actually not limited for the cheeks only. To apply on the face, mix generous amount of blusher with two drops of night repair. after application on the cheeks, the leftover blusher can actually for swept all over the face and neck to create a rosy look. Wow, this is definitely something new that I have learned. How cool is that.

To make up for the eyebrow, draw the bottom of the brows straight so that it can look more dimensional. To determine the length of the eyebrows, use the eyebrow pencil to measure by placing it at the side of the nose and eyes. To achieve the Chinese New Year look, it can actually be drawn stronger. The choice of colour for the eyebrows has to match the hair colour. And yep, I was told that my hair colour and eyebrows are matching. What I need to do is to make my eyebrows neater.

The concealer can actually be used as the eye shadow base. Application is from the lash line all the way to the brow. As we are not professional makeup artists, we can try the trick of blending the eyeliner to eye shadow for a gradient look. They have this product whereby one side is to draw the eye line while the other side is to smudge it to blend. For Asian, drawing the eye line is more important than applying the eye shadow and drawing the bottom eye line more important than upper eye line because it will help to open up the eyes and make them look bigger.

They have just launched a new product and that is the vibrating mascara. It will actually help to separate the eye lashes especially for beginners. As for that, I beg to differ. I am a beginner who have tried applying the normal kind of mascara and it's already not easy. I think the vibration will actually make those people who have shaky hands more difficult to do so. So, the mascara from Estee Lauder doesn't suits me. And yes, I tried to use the mascara for my last Dinner and Dance because Bobby from the first event that I have attended said that my eye lashes are actually quite long and the usage of mascara can enhance the length and thickness.

Moving on to the lips. The concealer can actually be used to pad along the lip line to soften the line, making the lips look thinner. I remembering hearing that Asian cannot use very red lipstick but I can't remember why. Or maybe I heard it wrong. After using their lipstick that contains hyaluronic acid, a clear lipgloss can be applied over it to make it glittery while still maintaining the lip colour to look natural. According to the staff, when ever the lips feel dry, all that one has to do is just to close the lips together with some pressure so that the molecules are broken and moisture can be released to hydrate the lips. This sounds really cool.

As the makeup seems finished, the concealer comes in handy again! As we proceed on with the steps to put on makeup, some powder may actually drop on parts of the face. This is especially for strong eye makeup. The concealer is actually used to do the "cleaning".

The night repair can be used after the makeup is done to help in making the skin more radiant. This came as a surprise to me as this is really new. According to the staff, the molecule of the night repair is actually very minute that it can seep through the makeup for the skin to absorb. Cool! I really love the idea of their night repair more and more!

After the event, a staff gently helped me to clean away all the makeup that I have tried on my hand. That is very nice of her. Nice customer service is very essential and yes, I have decided that when I have that spare cash, I will definitely patronise Estee Lauder. For once that I feel that the makeup artists are so genuine and don't judge, especially after they know that I do not put on makeup on a regular basis. Yes, I am a girl, and I do not know how to put on makeup.

Thank you Estee Lauder. =)

This article is written with the best of my memory and of what I have noted down. Some parts may be missing as I was interrupted to try their product once in a while.

Chingay 2014

Watching the Chingay Parade this year live was a pleasant surprise for me. I have always thought that it will be very packed at the standing audience area so I will do my best to avoid the crowd. My experience this year has proved me wrong.

This is the first year that I took a break from volunteering with Chingay. Sometimes I do not see the point in doing so anymore due to some bad management. I was at the Marina Bay area because I was visiting River AngBao with PF. I had wanted to catch a glimpse of the fireworks from afar. But as I walked nearer to the F1 pit for a better view, I realised that there wasn't much people and I actually made it all the way to the space right beside the last seating gallery. Though I missed the opening act, I watched almost the whole parade at the standing audience area. It was PF's first Chingay if I am not wrong. This was my first Chingay as a standing audience.

Ever since year 2009, I will try to experience the fire crackers because it is an annual thing and it's really hard to see it elsewhere. This year, I actually got the "best" experience; I got hit my the fire crackers. I went for the parade for both days, first day with PF and the second day with LeeYan and Nicholas. On both days, I got hit by the fire crackers. How cool is that?

On the first day, I was hit at the left ear. My first reaction was "OH NO!! is there something burning at my ear?!?!" I literally jumped and keep sweeping my ear just in case there is any burning parts stuck on to my hair or ear. On the second day, I was more calm when I got hit; it was on my left leg. Awesome good luck that I had yea?

I basically just watch and enjoy the parade on the first day and was more focused on photo-taking on the second day because I only brought my DSLR on the second day. I got an AngBao from one of the many CaiShenYe!! Yey!! :D

The main difference between Chingay and NDP is that there is really a lot of engagement between the performers and audiences for Chingay. Waving is a simple gesture but it can make people feel connected and create a high-spirited atmosphere.

With the experience that I had on the first day, I know where to walk actually. Though I didn't really get a good spot for my friends and me, I managed to bring them really near to the fireworks because I know where will the fireworks will be released. Many people left the area after the end of the parade for the standing audience but I moved closer to the seating gallery. It is not the end of Chingay as long as fireworks are not released. I was puzzled about this on the first day after the emcee bid us goodbye but decided to stay a little while more and I was right! Being a volunteer with Chingay for five years is not just "say say only" okay. Haha. It actually made me feel glad that I am actually bringing my friends some joy because I have knowledge in such things; this would include NDP as well.

For Chingay 2015, I will be back to F1 pit as a volunteer. This time, it will be a whole new experience for me. I am going to be a performer for the first time ever for Chingay! It is not an easy task as I have avoided being a performer for NDP for the past two parades due to the commitment that I have to give. Thank you Coach for the chance and understanding of the situation that I am in. My first official rehearsal will be in January and I will definitely put in my best effort to learn up the routine fast and put on the best show for my first Chingay Parade! Jiayous! =)

My First Flea!

I had my first flea today! It's really not easy to set up a stall and sell stuffs. The preparations before the flea, the time and effort to plan, the selection of stall, the weather, the transport... Everything got to be planned well in order to make things happen.

My partner is none other than my Auntie Peng. She has been busy making those handmade pouches while I am busy packing the items into individual packs. As there was no tables provided for us, we got to bring our own mat and all other stuffs required and place it within the given area. It was actually a little cramp.

Auntie Peng and I actually had a few quarrels during the preparations. Difference in views. Ultimately, we managed to get this through.

We were the first to choose a good spot when we reached there. It was however not really a good spot as time goes because that was the only spot that was really burning under the scorching sun. I beared with it as it's a one day event. I woke up with palpitations, chest pain and aching upper back as I slept late last night. I son feel better as time goes but I wouldn't say that I was in a perfect state for the flea. First thing that I did after I reached home was to have my lunch and have a good nap.

My first customer was Auntie Peng's regular customer. She was really helpful and I really thanked her. She bought something from us though she didn't really like the colour so that we can have a good start. I am really really thankful for what she had done. Auntie Peng was actually still placing out the goods when she made the purchase. Awesome!

My neighbour was someone who sells second hand items. I didn't really liked her team because there was an item that she took out and a big spider jumped out and onto one of the bracelet! Oh my. I didn't like the idea of her "eating" into my allocated space too. Luck. Her team actually got the best sale by the way. I was rather annoyed when one of them actually stood in front of my stall and "ley-longed" their items. I think that is rather rude of them.

After the torture under the hot sun with only a few items sold, we packed up and get ready to head home. A few of the people were quite nice. They came up to me and made comments such as "not hot ar?" or "aiyo, so poor thing, under the hot sun." etc. I see that they actually care, somehow.

As I went off to throw one of the boxes that we used to place our items, someone gave some stuffs to Auntie Peng. It was a surprise and we are really thankful for them. It was some clothings, bags and a Mr Krabi plushie and they gave us to sell it off. Wow. I didn't get to see their face because they went off before I head back to the stall to carry the packed stuffs.

Though I didn't earn a lot from this flea, I have gained new experience and it will definitely make my next flea a little easier. Those items that are not sold are now posted on my online store for sale. It do bring colours to my page and I hope that I can actually sell some of them off.

To those people who has bought from me during the flea, I thank you, from my heart.

HUAT AH! =)

Back-tracking Posts

As I have been rather busy, there have been a lot of posts that I have missed out. I am hoping to still type them out in chronological order but it feel a little weird as it can go back to year 2011. There are many memories and things that I can share about. Hmm.

I have made a list of the possible posts that I have missed and it seems to be quite long. Haha. There is definitely more than what I have on list now, definitely. Chingay, NDP, Thingyan.. etc.

Well, maybe I should do a little more planning and organising on my list so that they are in order so that it's not that confusing, hopefully.
