NYP Wushu Jan/Feb Babies B'day Celebration 2010

Went back to school for the important briefing and also celebrate the birthday for the January and February babies. Reaching there, it was shocking that only one baby turned up. Guess it was the best celebration in history ever.

Reaching the clubroom, people present started handing money to me after seeing the cake. Thank you people. It definitely made my job easier.

Guangyao coach seemed happy that it was a strawberry cake. I bought the cake from NTUC fairprice. As there was no candles and plastic knife given with the cake, I went to get them from breadtalk. The lady at the cashier was very nice. She even gave me the "happy birthday" plastic label. Good service.

Buying that cake of a smaller size has helped me to save some money. Due to the smaller size of the cake, there was not much waste too. I did not take any leftovers home. Thanks Pearlyn for helping me to distribute the cake too so that I could collect the money. I was the only welfare in-charge that was present on that day.

The cake tastes alright. I still however find that the taste still can be improved. Here's a picture of the strawberry cake!

I am really sorry to KokWei that he was present yet did not celebrate his birthday. Due to some mistakes in the records, I thought that his birthday was in May. I felt so sorry about it.

Band Fiesta 2010

Rushed to the toilet after reaching my workplace. Stomache. Usher in-charge was not me. A little disappointed but it's alright. After one tiring event, I really do not know how much more my lower back can endure.

Due to that I was in the toilet when the appointed in-charge arrive, I was not able to get the slacking post as someone else has took it. Got an important role. My lower back was aching badly after the end of the event. It was so painful that I did not help out with the routine house checks. I really thank the rest for helping out. It's really teamwork. The deployment has to be this way as there were no other alternative. I have to take the more important role.

The performance was a preparation for the people for their upcoming Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging. Instructions from the hirer was not very clear. We really got to play by ear. There was a reason why I got that post.

Doris confiscated a can of coca-cola. The patron did not came to claim it back after the event. I took it home.

The event ended at an expected time. I wonder why I kept feeling that it was still early. In the house, I felt like it was only 6pm. Weird.

I took a train home with Yuyue. I was so glad that I managed to get a seat. I can rest my tired legs and painful back all the way home. After a few stops, an old lady board the train. I gave up my seat for her. I know I did a good thing. I was however worried about my back at the same time. I can do it!

Yes, I endured till I reached home.

Chingay 2010 Leaders' Appreciation

I reached the office late as I had to attend an event at school. Thanks to Chongyi for letting me know what was going on then. I sweated a lot as I walked really fast.

Entering the office, I was rather confused of what to do. There were some YPC people yet I was ignored. I went up to a table and sign my name after seeing that there were signatures. Went in to put down my bag as I was not sure whether I can take the goodie bags on the table or not.

Bored, I called Elaine and made a trip to the toilet. Yes, I felt really awkward there. The only people that talked to me when I went in was Victor, Alex and Aaron. It was good that I met Joshua at the door after returning from the toilet. Someone I can talk to I guess.

I finally got my goodie bag when Alex came to attend to Joshua. Though it was nothing much, I like the notepad. Proceeded to take some food after Alex said that there were food. Only three trays were left. Oh well.

I took one chicken pie, one triangle pie and three brownies. I simply loves brownies. Weiguo came to take the chicken pie and made a simple comment, "what's this?". As I just reached and have not taken any bite, I just answered him, "food". Haha.

The rest of the people were playing with Wii. Bored me ate the food and looked through the stuffs I just got back from Mr Ho. Didn't eat very fast as I already had a round of food at the student conference.

It was followed by the sharing session regarding the parade and I was still eating. The brownies did not taste as great as I thought it would be. Maybe I was full. I expected myself to eat a lot but I did not. The drink was nicer that what I had in school.

I was called up for the sharing session. Shocked. Chose one question from Victor. "What was the most memorable event in Chingay?". I do not know what to say for this question. After much thinking, I said that it was my first time watching live fireworks display at Chingay Parade. After saying that, I wanted to end my "sharing". Dana then asked me about my group. I then said that my volunteers are books that cannot be judged by the cover and ended my "sharing".

I wanted to "sabo" Kelvin but his name was not called. Oh well. Wanted to make him sing as he has just finished his choir lessons. He reached there late too.

The programme was then followed by speech by Mr Raymond Huang and the giving out of certificates. I was so happy to get my certificate. I earned it with my hard work.

I then left the office, forgetting to wait for Weishan for my file. Oh well. Didn't head back as I need to get myself prepared for work at night. While leaving, I heard that the leftovers of the goodie bags can be taken. Not being very close to the people, I did not take any. Great. I really hope to take some extra though. Hmm.

I was so tired that I fell asleep after reaching home. The event was generally alright.

SHS Student Conference 2010

I was the first person to reach the school and waited for some time till the person holding the key arrived.

As most of the things were set up a day before, there wasn't much thing that I could do. I did not get what I wanted to do; registrar for the VIPs. Oh well. I am alright with it. Just find that the plan for registartion can be improved.

After resgistration, it was time to take a break. Sat around and rest till it was time for refreshments. I helped out to serve the food. Got a tray that I got to ask people to choose only one. We had fun hiding food away for the club members. I like the chocolate eclairs and cakes. The mini egg tarts are not bad too.

After serving the food, it was time for us to eat. We continued eating after the people went back to the lecture theatre. Many had left after the refreshment. It was a boring session to many I guess.

My jobscope for the day was not that much. It was more of a relaxing event for me. not being very involved in the preparation, I was not very sure what was happening. I just feel that things for this event can be improved.

My mind was not really at school as the Chingay leaders' appreciation session has started. Right after the end of the programme and photo-taking, I went off immediately for the leaders' appreciation.

Music.Life

Worked this two-day event with my injured lower back. Tired. BT was the in-charge for day one while I was the in-charge for day two.

Due to my lower back, I requested to be the flowergirl for day one. I wanted some rest. Things didn't really went well. I was ticked off by Stage IC. WX came to tell me about the same thing after GM complained to her. It was good that I got the chance to explain to WX, but I am not sure how she thinks. Sad.

GM said that I did not smile while I present the flowers. I did smile. I was ticked off by the Stage IC because the soloist wanted to shake hands with me but I left. I have got no chance to explain myself. Seeing that his hands were full and he doesn't looks like he was going to have a handshake with me, I left the stage. Thanks BT for helping me to further explain to WX after I told him what happened.

Bad day. As I was affected by what the GM said, I forgot to smile at Shurong when she thanked me for being the flowergirl. Felt really sorry about it.

The conductor was nice. He made me waited for some time while thanking the musicians before receiving the flowers from me. He gave me a handshake with a "thank you". I thanked him too.

Besides from being the flowergirl, I helped with the drinks and autograph session. Got to get the autographs from the musicians! Thanks Lin for helping me to ask BT.

Felt weird when I get the qutograph from the lady musician as I felt a little awkward while presenting flowers to her. I apologised to the soloist that I "made" awkward. He was very nice. He said "oh, it's alright". It really made me feel better.

Yuyue asked me to join her and BT for supper. The benefit given was that I got to have a free ride home. Haha. I was in a dilemna. I really wanted to join them, but it was rather late already. Decided to join them when they say that it would not take very long.

I had a nice chat with them during the ride and supper. I did not eat anything. They asked me to help myself with the food that they bought but I said that I wanted to sleep as an excuse.

Sending me to my Grandma House, I did not gave clear instructions. Really do not like the part about me that I am not in a clear state of mind when I am tired. I really must improve on this. Lucky that there wasn't much cars on the road. Phew.

Day two was chaotic. I am not good enough. There were four newbies, three with experience but not good enough yet. Jeanie was the only person that can help me a lot. I decided on the deployment while I was on the bus to work.

I gave QianTing a rather important role. Her jobscope was what I had for Day One. As a newbie, she did a very good job.

Preparing for the autograph session, Doris and I had to carry the queue-poles. I tried to roll the poles over so that I don't have to strain so much on my back. Thanks a lot to the guy at the reception counter for coming over to help me out.

Near the ending of the concert, I got to have some time to rest my back. Painful. I did not check out the inside of the house as frequent as I used to. My back was way to painful. I have been running around. I felt really bad that I haven't been taken much care for the newbies, especially for the two that were first time reporting. I had totally neglected the new temporary staff too. I feel so sorry about it.

Clearance of the house and autograph session was very fast. Gave the debrief as requested by Jessica. People doesn't seems to be interested at all. After around ten minutes of debrief, it was time to knock off.

No one knows that I was scolded by the Stage Manager. It was not my fault, just trying to settle the mistake made by one usher. I have got no chance to explain myself again. Jessica knew what happened as I made a comment when I saw something wrong; wrong late-comer queue.

Called Jessica to clear my doubts regarding how to fill in the form before giving it to the temporary staff. I really still need more experience to be a good in-charge.

Mistakes made for both nights were explained, but not to everyone who knows. I wonder will my name be cleared. I just hope that the rest of the events will be smoother for me. I want to have better skills too!

TV Broadcast of Chingay Parade 2010

Watched the repeat of the Chingay Parade 2010 on last Sunday as I was not able to watch it on the previous Sunday. It was a different view of the show. It brought back the wonderful experience on ground watching the performances.

The good part of watching it on TV is that I get to know what are the things that I am supposed to look out for. Well, I still prefer to watch it on groud as I can really feel the zest. The ability to smell the fireworks listen to the full blast of fire crackers is a really good experience. The people in-charge of the fire crackers seemed to feel nothing when they were standing right beside the crackers and have the crackers bursting onto them. Yes, it was the most looked forward show of the parade, the fire cracker dragon. It's dragon dance with the fire crackers cracking on the dragon. Some performers that were not holding the dragon held on to the fire crackers as they cracks.

The show started with the music from Chingay Wonderland. I once again felt happy.

The dragon dances are really cool. I remembered that there was a group of monks that performed a very tough way of the dragon dancing. I saw another group showcased on TV but rememeberd what I saw on ground.

Liang Zhu's music is nice. I got to see more of the dances and what was on the float. I got to watch the full performance of the group from Taiwan too. Their skills are really great!

The Sayang Sayang song is great too but I do not really feel the beat that I felt on ground.

The finale song was quite nice. I still prefer last year's though. Hope I can get the sound tracks of the songs.

After watching the TV, I finally understand what was going on for the segment on the "yellow river". As I was at the side on ground, the show was rather confusing for me.

The broadcast lasted for two hours. Quite fast. Maybe it was an advantage that the parade was not broadcasted live so that no segments will be missed and mediacorp can continue slotting in advertisements through the shows.

The commenters were alright. They have provided information that helps me to further understand the show. It can however be improved as I do not think some unnecessary exclaimation is needed. There were point of times when the voices of the commenters drowned the music of the performances, affecting my enjoyment of the show.

Though the show was the same, watching it from the VIP's view is rather different. I am so glad that I got to enjoy the live fireworks on ground.

Chingay 2010

I reached City Hall MRT station early to meet Elaine. I was so scared that I will be late with regards to the meeting time as I left my house rather late to charge my phone. I used up a lot of battery for the previous day. I was so glad that I did not make her wait.

We then make our way to the reporting area and found that we were the third and fourth leaders to reach. The rest were late. We took a rest before the rest arrived and have the briefing started.

I was so glad that the distributing of water was changed. We got to have a bottle each at the start of the day. I really thank the guy leader that helped me to get the box of water. Volunteers slowly reported one by one. We did the necessary admin stuffs and give out the water.

I went to talk to SockHui when I see that I am not so busy. She gave me her three slices of garlic bread. The bread saved me as I was rather hungry then. It was still a long way to go till dinner will be distributed. I tried to talk to the other leader at times so that he won't feel awkward that I used to feel.

After I finished the breads, the people from the toilet company came to clean the toilet. The smell was so terrible that I felt like vomiting. Sensitive nose. It was a torture to carry this out after having all the volunteers reported to the tentage.

Mr Raymond Huang came to give a talk again. He came in the segway just like the day before. I do not really like the idea of him coming in the segway as it was a rather dangerous thing. It is a cool invention I must say, balancing the whole machine hands-free.

Just like the previous day, we went to put the pompoms on the seats. instead of placing the items on the promenade side, we were in-charge of the pit side this round. The people worked really fast I must say. Within moments, all seats were placed with a pompom. I was thinking that there is some time for rest and enough time for dinner. Well, I was wrong. It rained shortly after all the pompoms were placed and all of us have to run for shelter first. We got to rest while waiting for the rain to stop. I really dread wiping the chairs due to my back.

We were given a piece of towel each shortly. Proceeded to around garage 33 for dinner before proceeding back to wipe the chairs. Reminded my group not to hurt their back while wiping the chairs with what I learned in school. Dinner was alright. I was so glad that there were more gravy. The fishcake tastes nice. We got three pieces of checken each, but it wasn't really nice. The vegetables was alright, just the kind that I do not really like.

It was a change in timing for dinner due to the rain. Supposed to have it at a later timing, the second dinner shift. I really do not like the segway moving to and froth near me as it is putting my poor feets in jeopardy. I am not sure when my toes are going to be run over by that heavy machine.

I wasted the food again. Not enough time to eat again. Sad. We then dragged out feets back to the yellow sector, as garage 33 is around the blue sector, to wipe the chairs. Reaching there, I was surprised to find that the chairs were actually very dry! Wow. Great, I do not have to hurt my back!

As the gates will be opened earlier than the previous day, the other leader and I were told to get the volunteers into their positions first. After all of them got into their position and I gave deployment to a guy who only turned up for that day, it was time to rest my legs. I took a seat beside the staircase near the red sector so that I can watch the people rehearse. Had a nice chat with the other leader.

Volunteers beside me suddenly apologised to me out of the blue. It took me a while to realise that they were trying to say that they are the lamp-post. It's not funny. The mood of a nice chat turned a little awkward for a moment. We continued chatting till the gates were almost opened. In between the chat, I went to the end of the gallery seats and shouted over to Sockhui who was at the red sector. Her way of wiping the chairs is going to hurt her back.

I did a last round of checks and waited for the gates to be opened. I could see that many spectators were already waiting at the entrance point, ready to get themselves into the cheery atmosphere of the parade. Standing and waiting for the cue at the staircase, I saw the spectators rushing in once the signal for the gates to be opened was given. It was time to get to work.

I walked around just like the previous day. Got some free gifts as it was the last day. Furthermore, there was a special section dedicated to the PA members. There were extra gifts given to these people and I got myself some. Great. I got the blue-light Chingay fan too. It would be nice if I get to have the yellow one as well.

As I have watched the parade before, I still kept my spirits high. I still like the Chingay Wonderland music piece. I watched the parade with a different volunteer. The starting was filled with smoke. A little more than the previous day. The wind was so strong that all the smoke was blown towards my sector. All the colour papers were blown over to my side as well.

The people holding the gigantic flags had some problems balancing as the wind was really strong. But they did it! They were just so good!

As I sat at the side near the red sector, there was noise pollution. As it was the side of the sector, the ending of each performance, I did not really get a good view of the show. I sat in the middle the previous day and got a rather nice view. Well, at least I get to see something a little different.

We got ready for deployment as the parade is near the ending. Nice fireworks. I screamed till a guy volunteer in front of me got irritated. Well, it was a time for high-spirits, so why not? I really like the fireworks. Guess what? I got to see KungFu Panda too! I even got a chance totake a picture of it! Yes! KungFu Panda is just so cute. Being very high-spirited for the finale, he danced and his fat belly actually bounced within the protective ring. So cute! Though I have to take a picture of it through the metal railings of the staircase, I was very happy!

I saw a performer getting ready for her next act; dancing with a colourful pompom at the gallery. I asked to take a picture with her. Nice! Just a pity that the picture is a little dark. Great enough I guess.

I was told to stayed on top to clear the spectators while the rest of my group proceed down to be part of the "bye-bye party". As the City Alive people have taken over the pit, there was only one way to exit the venue. The volunteers were asked to direct them to that only exit.

After the people were cleared, I got a chance to take a picture together with the other leader and the PA in-charge. Nice. A pity that my hair was messy yet I did not realise!

It was time for a mass photo to be taken after that. The group was led to the blue sector to find a seat. Proceeded back to the tentage after a while as we were told that it was not a success in taking that photo. We took another mass photo at the tentage.

After the admin work, it was time that the volunteers were released. The other leader and I sorted out the excuse letters and certificates before distributing them out. Nice cooperation.

There was no certificates given out to the leaders on that day. After the leaders' mass debrief and submitting my name for the excuse letter, it was time to leave the place. It was nice of HongQuan to wait for me again. We walked really fast as it was late. I was so glad that we caught the last train to Jurong East. Phew.

I reached home at the same time as the previous day. Tired. I earned myself a wound because of the ankle guard that I wore. The protruding rubber caused my foot to be itchy. My foot bled due to the scratch. Ouch. I went to sleep after taking a bathe. It was really a relief that this project has ended. I am really tired. I am so happy that I finally got to rest.
